That was the number quoted to me when I went to do mine, Felt a little stronger, but I also added a 850 Pro Fuel carb at the same time, so it was hard to tell exactly what the pipes gained.

So on cc they have been discussing the Classic Chambered exhaust and guys are saying anywhere from 20 to 80 hp. Are the Superformance sidepipes that restrictive?
If so that will be something I definitely want to do to pick up some power.

These guys claim 100hp / 100 ft lbs increase with this? Seems very optimistic? www.classicchambered.com/classic/performance.htmlThat guy is out here near my office in Novi, MI... Notice too, those results are with a Big Block, so they will be quite a bit different (lower) with a sb... Personally, the pipes/ mufflers he compaired his with must have been VERY poor, an I cannot see his simple/60's vintage design (which they are) flowing much better... I have a set of heavily modified SPF pipes that I am going to be selling in the spring here. They have had the SPF mufflers removed and replaced with Stainless Specialty's 3" core models (you can literally roll a baseball through them now). The collectors have also been modified for better flow (also a HUGE necessity if you want to rework the stock SPF pipes)... I realized almost 50+HP with these pipes on my car (again, a BB)... Quite frankly, the stock SPF sidepipes ARE a joke. When I cut my factory ones apart, I literally laughed out loud for almost 10 minutes! I was laughing so hard, my wife came out of the house wondering who was tickling me in the garage! LoL... THE BEST sidepipes for our cars are the Firefly ones! They are works of art AND they flow AWESOME! I'll be putting some on in the spring... fireflyperformance.com/index.htmRon can set you up to experience the best performance through exhaust flow enhancement for your motor (BB's and sb's don't have the same flow requirements).

The SPF pipes that came on the car, I had sent out to have the same mods done that 131 did, like the sound, very aggressive. How do the Firefly's sound do they have a very deep note to them??

The Firefly pipes are much louder than stock (of course) but I don't know how mine will sound as mine are of a newer generation with a better merge-collectors in them... The other interchangable-muffler ones Ron made previously sound AWESOME...
Here's what my modified pipes sound like down in London Ohio in 2006, when we would get over 100MPH on main Street! LoL.... I think I got up to @103 on this run (video audio kinda sucks like normal):

I am still using the stock SPF pipes. Ther engine is a 427 SB. These pipes are not extremely loud. When you hit 3000 rpm and above they are much louder. I would like a deeper sound. A few extra HP is okay, but that is not the main goal. Can someone give more information on the Firefly pipes. Are they really (much) louder)? Or are they only above 3000 rpm louder?
Noise is an issue for me. I live in an area with a lot of homes. When I take is easy, my wife only hears me when I am almost home. When I step on it (3000 - 6000 rpm) , she can hear me a few miles from home (when she is outside). I want to come home without the neigbours complaining about the soundlevel. I have read some stories of people claiming their Cobra sounds like a dragracer. How loud are the Firefly pipes?

I've used Stainless Specialties and Classic Chambered. They all break down over time, so plan on them getting louder as they go through several heat cycles. If you want to be less loud, you either have to reduce the I.D. or lengthen the muffler (from 22" to 24"), or both. Anything below 2.5" I.D. will be restrictive. I run 3" on my stroked SB and always wear ear plugs when driving. Except for WOT, the wind noise is worse than the exhaust. You would cry if you cut open a stock SPF muffler and looked inside...they are that restrictive.

I get a kick out of these muffler threads. When I dynoed my 427W, I did some back to back tests with the stepped dyno headers with no mufflers, SPF headers with the stock SPF sidepipes and SPF headers with GAS-N Performance polished stainless steel sidepipes with only a 2" flowpath.
The Superformance mufflers are not near as bad a some would have you believe. I only saw a around a 20 horsepower loss between the dyno headers with no mufflers and the SPF exhaust at the horsepower peak. The GAS-N pipes, with a 2" flowpath were only a few horsepower behind the SPF pipes. This was on a low 500 horsepower 427W.
I have since replaced the GAS-N 2" flowpath pipes with a set of GAS-N 2 1/2" flowpath mufflers and I may have picked up a couple of horsepower. The 2 1/2" GAS-N mufflers have more of a deeper rumble at idle compared to the "crackle" at idle of the 2" GAS-N pipes. The GAS-N pipes aren't too loud at cruising speed-I don't need ear plugs, but you can definitely hear them at full throttle. There may be a Cobra sidepipe out there that is so bad you might pick up a hundred horsepower, but it sure wasn't the pipes that came with my SPF. In speaking with the builder of the GAS-N pipes, there is a lot that goes into making a set of pipes that work-think collector design, muffler design, exhaust gas temperature and velocity. A loud 3" core muffler doesn't necessarily equate to more horsepower, just like a 427 big block needs a bigger muffler than a 427 small block.
