Was it an SPF option or a special order?

Welcome to the new forum, Juan,
Love the wires on 2891.
Don has been trying to convince Dennis and I to come out to Ohio this summer, but it's too big a trip after last year's jaunt to Colorado. We need to stay closer to home for a while.
Don also thinks you would be the perfect guy to own COB023, and appreciate its place in SPF history. I think so too :-)
All the best..........Bill

Hello Bill,
also nice for me, to meet you here!
If I understand the ongoing discussion right, you still try selling your car #023. I wish you all the best for this, but I think it won't be easy to sell it. I also talked to some Cobra-owners in Germany and most of them had some doubts to your car because of the Ford rear axle. They prefer the IRS-types.
What's about your new, famous car? Have you already put many miles on the speedometer?

You may be right, Werner...though I haven't advertised the car except in the Cobra Club Forum, where everyone who reads it already has a Cobra!
The straight axle has a undeserved negative reputation. True, there have been poorly-engineered examples, but there have been some pretty bad IRS cars, too. After all, the MK11 originals weren't glorified for great handling, even with IRS. It's the engineering of the whole package that makes a good car, not just one part.
The 4-link with panhard rod and coil overs in COB023 is very well done. Unless someone intends to push it hard on the track (and COB023 wouldn't be the right car for that anyway) the suspension works fine, and it's stronger than the early SPF IRS models. I have driven it hard on some very twisty roads and kept pace with IRS SPFs.
At any rate, the car would ideally go to someone who wants to preserve it as it was built, because of it being the first USA SPF.
No new miles on the 427 car...the snow is almost gone, but the roads are still rough from frost heaves. I hope to start driving it in a week or so.

Hi Bill,
I agree 100% with you, I think a straight axle has a lot of benefits for "normal" drivers like us. For me the main benefit would be the simplicity of a straight axle. Less moving parts means less problems - and trust me I know what I say. As I mentioned, my car early #011 has a Jaguar IRS - and this "british design" is really challenging. I've already invested many hours in it, reworked a lot of details - and now it works fine - but as I said, that was a long way.
Tom has already mentioned that the wheather in NH isn't really nice, you have had a hard winter this year. In Germany the situation is completely different. We had such a mild winter with only some single days with snow. We had more than 20°C even in february, so that I was able to drive a lot. What should I say - the wheather seems to be crazy...

Mark, I just love the hardtop on your car. That is why I chose to have one on mine. Makes our rides usable in 10 degree weather.
